Aging and gender-related effects of tauroursodeoxycholic acid treatment on liver functions, plasma lipid profile, and oxidative stress

Purpose: Aging is related to multiple and systemic dysfunctions in the body, accompanied by metabolic disorders oxidative stress. Although studies are revealing role of endoplasmic reticulum (ER) stress aging-related pathologies, this relationship has not been fully elucidated. In study, it was aimed reveal changes liver function, plasma lipids, markers due aging gender, investigate how these parameters change with ER inhibitor tauro-ursodeoxycholic acid (TUDCA) treatment.
 Materials Methods: Young (4 months old) old (24 Wistar albino male female rats were used experiments. The administration TUDCA performed for 4 weeks (150 mg/kg/day, ip). Liver function (AST ALT), lipids (LDL, HDL, TG total cholesterol), biomarkers (malondialdehyde, (MDA) myeloperoxidase (MPO)) levels measured samples. 
 Results: inhibition decreased AST levels, increased HDL value, MDA MPO elderly. effects on some varied depending gender.
 Conclusion: Considering pathogenesis many age-related diseases, thought that results will contribute development treatment approaches targeting aging.
